A Christmas Carol

Three kings in oriental night

Gazed upward and beheld a light,

Then fell in worship as afar

Arose a newly birthéd star.

They gathered gold and incense rare,

A gift significant and fair

For one who merits royal things-

The Prince of Peace, the King of Kings.

The Shepherds gazed in mighty awe

As far above a light they saw,

When from on high the angel came

To bring glad tidings of the same.

‘Born is the Savior of mankind

That all men may redemption find,

That sin and error now may cease-

To men goodwill, and on Earth peace!’

Now angels, kings, and shepherds mild

Kneel down before the newborn child,

A babe in common cloth arrayed,

And in a humble manger laid.

Our King, Redeemer, born to show

To men the path in which to go,

Born to die in grief and pain

That all in Him may live again.

Now sing we all the glorious praise

That long ago the angels raised,

And live as taught by Him above:

Man to serve, and God to love,

Till peace has entered every heart,

And all creation played its part,

Until the Earth is cleansed and bright,

And bathed in everlasting light.
